Crafty Crayon Hearts

Hello everyone! It’s Lauren from La Whimsy Writer here with another guest post. Today I have a craft project that is perfect for Valentine’s Day and kid friendly. We are going to take all of the old/broken/unwanted crayons that are lying around and turn them into something amazing!

Supplies needed for this project: 20141224_173835

  • An assortment of crayons
  • Silicone muffin tins (ours was a heart-shaped tin)

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 275

Step 2: Remove the wrappers from the crayons

Step 3: Break the crayons into small pieces, mix the colors up, and fill the muffin tin with the mixed up pieces

Step 4: Place the tins in the oven for 10-12 minutes

Step 5: After the crayons are completely melted safely remove them and set them aside to cool

Step 6: Let them cool for 25-30 minutes then put the trays in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes

Step 7: Take them out of the refrigerator and they will pop right out of the mold

That’s it folks!!! We have gone from this:

To this:

The kids can be involved in all of the parts of the craft that don’t involve the oven and they can see their old, unwanted transform themselves into something beautiful that they can give away to friends and family for Valentine’s Day. While you’re taking care of all the parts that involve heat your itty bitty one can hang out in their highchair playing with an activity book that you can store inside of The Highchair Organizer.

Fun Strawberry Lemonade Mocktail Recipe

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far! My name is Lauren Pickens and I’m so excited to be posting my second guest blog here on The HighChair Chic. You can read my first post here, which is a Healthy Eating Essentials post. You can also visit my website, where I discuss pop culture, lifestyle, and much more!

Today I will be sharing a recipe for a strawberry lemonade mocktail. It’s super easy and a drink that you can enjoy with the whole family.

1 1/2 cup of fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries

1 cup of sugar

1 cup of water

Lemon juice

Plain seltzer water

Ice cubes

The first half of the ingredients will be used to make your strawberry simple syrup. Simple syrups are used in cocktails and other drinks to give a powerful burst of flavor. Instead of using store bought syrups that are full of preservatives and chemicals, we’re going to make our own!

Put the strawberries, water, and sugar into a medium sized pot and bring your ingredients to a boil.

Next let it simmer for around 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once you strawberries are falling apart take it off of the heat. If you are using frozen strawberries it will take about 25 minutes.

Using a strainer filter out the bits of strawberry skin and put your syrup into a bowl so that it can cool.

Now your simple syrup is done! All that’s left to do is to put it in the refrigerator to cool until it is completely chilled. For me this was a few hours.

Once the syrup is done cooling you can mix your drinks. You can change the portions depending on how sweet/sour you want your drink.

In each of my cups I put about 4, cubes of ice, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of strawberry syrup, and filled the rest of the glass up with seltzer to balance out the flavors.

Once you have added the ingredients use a straw or spoon to stir it and enjoy!

This would be perfect for a holiday party or family night when you want to do something a little special!

Holiday Planning? Take a Break

The Highchair Organizer is all about organizing to keep your family and home in sync. Our product was created to make life easier for parents all over and we want to do that in multiple ways. The holiday season has arrived! It’s time to plan now more than ever.

From Thanksgiving to the New Year and everything in between…entertaining, cooking, holiday parties and unexpected guests can spike our stress levels.  Most often our little angels are sent away to play as you prepare; so we composed a list of things to do with your tykes to keep your stress low and family fun at an all time high.

1.Gather around and make it a Redbox night.  Image

2. Wind down and have a hot cocoa or eggnog party.

3. Light a fire and roast marshmallows for s’mores.

4.Learn how to string popcorn for your Christmas tree.

5.Take a drive around the neighborhood to look at the holiday decorations and lights.

6.Make candy or cookies and make sure to give each child a helpful task.

7.Make paper snowflakes or turkey hands out of paper to decorate the house (each child should write one thing they are thankful for to add a personal touch).Image

8.Have a Pajama Day! No pressure to go anywhere just stay in and relax in your footed PJs.

9.Enjoy a game night, let the little ones pick the games or make the rules.

10.Bundle up and go outside in the cold weather (snow ball fights or touch football games can keep the family active).

Most importantly, winter breaks are meant to spend with your family! Don’t get overwhelmed, take your time, plan ahead and everything will fall into place!

Is Raising A Child Truly PRICELE$$ ??

I read an article recently that stated the average cost to raise a child (up to 18 years old) these days is $241,080 and climbing – and that doesn’t even include the cost of college!!! And with the economy the way it is today, several children live with their parent’s way past age 18.

Now I know you cant put a price tag on being a parent, but how is it even possible to afford raising children these days?!

The key here is to learn to BUDGET your money and be a smart spender/saver. This is important for those who are parents already and those who may become parents in the future.

Some good tips on budgeting for your family include:

* Know what you can and cannot afford. There is nothing wrong with shopping for bargains! You might be surprised what deals you can find if you actually take the time to look.

* Learn the difference between necessities and luxuries. That fancy new boat you are dying to purchase is not going to put food on the table!

* Start saving money for the future…NOW! – a car, college, and extracurricular activities all add up over time. If you start saving even the tiniest bit of money now, it will pay off for you later.

We all know kids are expensive, but the memories and time you spend with them is ABSOLUTELY priceless! Learning to budget your money can take some of the stress away and let you enjoy spending time with your children!

The Royal Baby…It’s a BOY!!!

Prince William and Duchess Kate are officially parents! The Royal Baby was born Monday, July 22nd at 4:24 p.m., weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces. And BOY….does this child have a lot to live up to! The child’s title will be His Royal Highness Prince (the baby’s name) of Cambridge. And of top of that…he is third in line to the throne. Talk about pressure!!

The most interesting thing about the Royal Baby is that his name has still not been announced. People are anxiously awaiting the announcement of the name, even making some bets and suggestions of their own. But despite the name, this is the most popular and most talked about baby in the world! In fact, some economists expect the birth to boost the UK economy by 380 million dollars!!! How? Apparently most of that money will come from souvenirs and purchases of party food and rounds of celebratory pints at the pub.
Talk about a powerful little boy. He DEFINITELY needs The Highchair Organizer 🙂

Now let’s talk about Kate for a minute. We all know she looked great the entire time she was pregnant, but looking fabulous the day after giving birth!? That’s just crazy! But leave it to Kate to make her public appearance one day later in an adorable blue dress with her hair and make-up looking flawless. I don’t know many women who feel (let alone look) that good the day after having a baby! But that’s just one of the many reasons why we love Duchess Kate!

As with many people, we are so excited about the Royal Baby and cannot wait to hear the name. What do you think the name is going to be?
